As hard as it is for us admit here at UDO HQ, the World Street Dance Championships are over for another year. A new competition season is upon us, and with it we have new Under 8 & U16 Team categories, new 2.0 Championships, new dancers, new judges…
So much is new, and so we wanted to give you a helping hand with navigating it all. Keep reading below to find out how you can get geared up for the new season whether you’re a parent, dancer, teacher, or friendly face at competition!
1) Which Events are Right for Me?
Since we have different events running all over the country, you can choose which events you’d most like to go to. If you want to qualify for our Major Street Dance Championships in duos, make sure you head to a Regional event. If you also want to compete in quads, get your group to a 2.0 Championship! It doesn’t stop there; if you’d like to compete on an international level, but still in that fun and friendly setting, UDO Six Nations is coming this November. A little later, we’ll have the British Championships. At both, compete in solos, duos, quads, teams, SuperCrews, and battles! We are already hyped to see who will represent their country and take home a title...
2) Preparing for Comp
With the introduction of quad qualifiers and SuperCrews at 2.0 Championships, Six Nations, and British Championships, we are giving you exactly what you asked for: more opportunities to dance. We know that quads will be popular – they always have been – but we are genuinely excited about the brand new SuperCrews. No age or ability categories, just teams united by their love of dance. The judging criteria? You SuperCrew routine must tell a story, and is judged on creativity of choreography. We can’t wait to see what themes you bring to competition, and we know that your teams will love working together for one incredible routine. What’s more, SuperCrews are open qualifiers at Six Nations and British, so you can bring your combined teams even if you didn’t qualify for the event! What better place to qualify for Worlds than another international event?
3) Need Some Support?
Remember, at UDO we are more than the results and rankings. Our staff are on hand to help you with your journey in the street dance world; whether that’s by offering your dance schools street dance qualifications through UDO Academy exams, providing further support via our website, or guiding young dancers with advice articles in our digital magazine, we are here to help.
